Tarot Reflections: The High Priestess
She is one of the most mysterious and illusive cards in the deck, and for good reason: the secrets she possesses, the great mystery she lives in, is central to her whole being.
Behind her is a veil (beautiful, dense, concealing) that marks the boundary between the seen and the unseen. The known and the unknowable. And The High Priestess guards this threshold, observing the querent (you) with complete presence.
She does not speak, and that’s very purposeful, because words can only carry us so far. Some things in life cannot be physically spoken: they’re intuitively understood.
As within, so without.
What you seek, also seeks you.
You have all you need, you are all you need.
True wisdom lives in the tension between opposites. If she is the guardian of the great mystery, then she is only a reflection of you. And so what are you a reflection of?
Think back to the times when you’ve thought about someone, only to have them text you seconds later. And think back to the times where you decided “1111” was a significant number, only to have it appear on your receipt the same day. Or moments when, beyond words or logical explanation, you knew something to be true — without the need for external validation.
And so logically, you might be saying to yourself right now, “I don’t understand. How is this even possible?” And truthfully — deep down inside of yourself — does it even matter how?
So I would like to invite whoever’s reading this The High Priestess.
If you feel the mystery is hiding from you lately, then you’re only really hiding from yourself. The High Priestess is remote, but she is not withholding.
If you’d like to take this process a step further, then I invite you to consider the following question:
How do you relate to the liminal space between knowing and not knowing, and what lives there?
